Geography

At James Dixon we recognise the importance of teaching children key geographical skills through the study of places, people and the human and natural environments. We encourage all children to ask questions and become curious about the world that we live in. Fieldwork, such as trips out to develop the use of maps and compasses, help children to apply what they are learning in real life settings. Resources including maps, atlases and globes help children to understand the places where they live, may have travelled to or are finding out about for the first time.

At James Dixon we aim to develop a genuine understanding of our place in the world, and inspire our children to make comparisons and view things from different perspectives. We expect them to form their own ideas, opinions and questions to deepen their geographical knowledge and be able to apply their skills in their own lives.
